Globalstar offers satellite voice and data service to businesses at remote worksites and recreational users who travel where traditional landline and cellular services do not work. Globalstar serves customers that include natural resource companies, commercial fishermen, government employees, recreational and travel enterprises, and public safety organizations. Globalstar phones can also be rented by businesses and consumers with short-term or seasonal requirements.

Globalstar has a handheld unit and two fixed phones. The Globalstar GSP 1600 Handheld phone sells for $749.00. It allows customers the same flexibility of a cell phone, but switches from terrestrial cellular telephony to satellite telephony when needed.

There are two fixed Globalstar telephones. These telephones are meant to remain in remote offices or worksites. The GSP-2900 costs $2,495.00. The fixed phone needs to be mounted outdoors with a clear view of the sky. The phone is connected to the desk-set through the junction box.

The GSP-2900 telephone:

• Supports an 800 ft. telephone cable or a 450 ft. data cable
• Connects multiple telephone sets
• Works with standard phone equipment
• Allows remotely located residents to connect to the public telephone network
