Most phone companies specializing in landlines offer consumers business phone lines. A business telephone line can either be a direct line or can provide trunking for a phone system. Business lines generally run on higher bandwidths like T1 lines and provide more features than ordinary lines including:

• Dependable local dial tones
• Unlimited local calling
• Your name and number in the white pages and directory assistance
• Dedicated fax line

Because of all the special features a business telephone line will generally cost more than a residential line. The new wave for businesses is VoIP (Voice Over Internet Protocol) service.

• Vonage (Vonage.com) gives businesses two telephone packages with Internet phone service. The Vonage business packages cost either $39.99/month for the basic plan or $49.99/month for the Small Business Unlimited.
• Lingo (Lingo.com) also has VoIP service for businesses. The unlimited local plan costs $49.95/month and the unlimited international plan costs $99.95/month.

Both companies allow you to keep your current phone number and give you a dedicated fax line.

If you are just looking for a regular landline rather than VoIP service for your business, you can find one at Sprint's website at Sprint.com (although they also offer VoIP to save businesses money). The nice part about Sprint phone plans is that they can cater to the size of your business. They service small and medium businesses right along with home offices and enterprises. Sprint can cater your plan to meet your business' specific needs. Be aware that Sprint is merging with Nextel Communications and plans to discard its phone line business in order to focus on wireless.
